Vision in Silver Ending

The end of Vision in Silver left with me with a lot more questions than answers, while I'm glad that we finally got to see what was in Elayne's diary, a lot of characters were left unmentioned. I was hoping that we would get to see more of Tess, and I also enjoyed the Sanguinatis. I know that the novel's main focus is Meg, but these characters played a large role throughout the story.

I think that learning that Leo killed Elayne was a little anti-climactic, it was both mentioned very briefly, and for the amount that the murder was talked about during the novel it didn't hold any surprise or shock value. As Monty read the diary entry we saw his first real display of emotion over Elayne's death, and even that seemed to be coming a little late.

Meg and Simon'e relationship may be the slowest slow build I've ever seen, but I'm glad that the author has kept it that way. I think it fits both of their characters well, and I think that by the end of the series they will have figured out their feelings for each other.

Overall I enjoyed this book for a fantasy novel, I particularly enjoyed the world it was set in and the way Bishop was able to create so many distinct characters. I think she's an author I would consider looking more into.

  1. I think Anne Bishop did a wonderful job creating "Namid" and the creatures that inhabit it. I personally found the characters and their individual sub plots to be my favorite part of the book. The book had a very soap opera-esque feel to it. Bishops choice to zoom out from the typical focus on a single character, made a point to show how different communities, and the people in them, interact with each other. I think it got a lot more hate than it deserved. I was a bit skeptical at first, but in the end it was worth the read.

  2. The end of this novel left me with a lot more questions than answers as well. Though I did not like that fact, I did understand that there is more novels to read to get the answers. If all of the answers were all at the end, the author would not be able to create the next one, or the next few. Even though I do think that it was very slow pace and could have went a little faster than glacier speed.
For Meg, though she is claimed to be the most important role in the novel, I feel we know just as much about other characters along with knowing Meg. As if there is more than one main character in the book and as you have said, other characters do play a big role with everything that is going on in the novel.
As for Meg and Simons relationship, I feel the author made the right decision for how their friendship turned into something more as slow as she did. Since the book is supposed to be about humans and others, creating a relationship between a human and an other within the book is more rare. Plus, to me it showed how Meg and Simon have grown and how close they really are. Little gestures can show more emotion than most any other gestures, or doings.
Lastly, I did not really see this book as a fantasy, just my opinion. I could relate pretty much every single scenario that was played out in the book to here in our world. Maybe it was because what the others could do, or change was not mentioned a lot, leaving my mind to not wonder as far as I hoped it would.
