The Heroin Diaries x-163

After reading the first two sections of the Heroin Diaries, it's hard for me to believe that Nikki Sixx is still alive today. The amount of drugs and partying he did is something I thought was only fictional, in rock and rap songs.

That being said, reading what Sixx has to say about his addiction as he is going through it is very intriguing to me. He knows he is addicted to a number of different drugs but he can't bring himself to stop.

I think it's really interesting that as a band, Motley Crue doesn't seem particularly close. You'd think that you'd be pretty good friends with the people you make music with, and go on tour with, but Sixx only seems close with Tommy Lee. Sixx even mentions that he doesn't even know where Vince or Mick lives (pg. 159). This just shows that Sixx's drug addiction was pushing away his relationships with those around him more than he probably realized (not to say the other members of the band weren't struggling with drugs as well).

Near the end of this section of reading we see Nikki attempting to get clean, inspired by the death of his grandmother, and his upcoming tour. Reading Sixx's struggle I am genuinely impressed by the willpower he had to take it upon himself to cut drugs out of his life. Getting rid of an addiction is much harder than falling back into it and although Sixx has done a great job staying sober (of drugs) for two weeks, with bad influences all around him I doubt he'll be able to cast much longer.

  1. I am surprised Nikki Sixx is still alive too, the amount of drugs he was doing was insane. I feel like it would be enough to kill a horse. I do not think he wanted to stop when it came to his addiction, when he was high, he was fine. When he was sober he was withdrawn and panicky. At the beginning of his drug addiction I think they were close, but as time went on and his addiction grew and became "larger than life" it tore the band apart. I feel like everyone in the band was into the drugs a little, but did not take it to the same extent that Nikki Sixx did. I agree, I am sure Nikki will relapse soon enough. He has many influences close and far to him. But I don't think he truly wanted to be clean, he was living that stereotypical rockstar life.

  2. I agree that it is a small miracle that Nikki Sixx is still alive, especially considering that he has died before now due to a drug over dose. As well as being able to function, even a little, is a major achievement. He not only survived the drugs, but still wrote songs and music in spite of them. The kind of mental fortitude he had to possess to do that.
When Nikki decided to quit doing drugs, I can’t help but wonder if he just did more of other drugs to help make up for it. He seemed to be going through a pretty severe coke binge without the heroin.
