The Heroin Diaries- 360-End

Nikki Sixx died. And then came back to life, but more importantly he died. Overdosing on drugs is a real and huge threat, and it was a shocker to me throughout the whole book that no one took that thought more seriously.

I think one of the things that shocked me the most was that Sixx immediately used drugs again after returning home from the hospital, I think that shows very clearly that his state of mind at the time wasn't very concerned about living another day.

Reading the catch-up from 1987- present day might have been the most interesting part of the book to me. Knowing that Sixx went back to drugs multiple times but still had the willpower to bring himself back to sobriety is really a story of something that at once seemed like an impossibility.

People can really change over of the years which is shown exceptionally seeing all the people that Sixx has good relationships with now that he didn't before. His band members and him are even on good terms even after all the shit he put them through, which is really a great showing of forgiveness.

And who would think that Nikki Sixx would ever want to be a father, it seems so out of character, but his family life is more important to him than partying now. Knowing that Sixx got remarried within the past few years has me hoping that this is the last marriage in store for him.

  1. It might be callous to say, but I think it probably took Sixx dying twice for him to start to understand how dangerous the drugs were. With his addictive personality and tolerance towards all the drugs he took it’s not surprising that the other people in his life did not take it more seriously. They thought that Sixx doing drugs was just how it was going to be. I do agree that Sixx being able to come back to sobriety after what he has put himself through is incredible. Most stories of horrible drug addiction don’t end in such a happy light. Well, as happy as it gets for Sixx.

  2. I also really enjoyed the bullet point setup at the end of the book. I'm not sure why, but I was hooked for those last few pages and did not want to put the book down. The huge amount of events that took place in those bullet points seemed enough to write another, if not several more, interesting books. Additionally, it was cool to see how all of the band members went from borderline hating each other to being friends at the end. The fact that they were even going to Nikki for life advice later is mind boggling. It goes to show that people really can change, no matter how hopeless they may seem.
